Flow State - Mitsuko Uchida
Welcome back to Flow State, your daily instrumental music newsletter. Paid subscribers get a daily Spotify playlist, unlock the weekly Tuesday podcast, and keep this newsletter alive: Good morning. Today we’re listening to Mitsuko Uchida, a Japanese pianist and conductor originally from Atami. She was raised there and then Vienna, where she moved when she was 12, and attended the Vienna Academy of Music.¹ She has performed piano recitals internationally and conducted several orchestras, including Cleveland’s with whom she won a Grammy in 2011. We’re first playing her 2002 solo record of Schubert piano sonatas, and second playing that 2010 record with the Cleveland Orchestra of Mozart piano concertos. Her recent conversation with The New York Times is full of gems, such as “I never have revelations in my life. Or if I do, I won’t tell you.” Schubert: Piano Sonatas - Mitsuko Uchida (60m, no vocals) Mozart: Piano Concertos - Mitsuko Uchida & Cleveland Orchestra (70m, no vocals) Have a really good Thursday. |
