Want to go to Summer School?

No... not the kind of remedial summer school you're thinking of.

Should I call it: Summer Camp?

...Maybe not as much three-legged races. Think: more spreadsheets

Well here's the news:

I'm creating a week-long program for live learning this summer. (on Zoom)

Specifically so you can excel at Google Sheets.

Spreadsheet Summer School

When I was a kid summer school was not a place I had to go to, I loved to go. Every summer I would enroll in a class that wasn't offered during the regular school year.

Claymation one year. Theatre the next. The summer between middle school and high school, we performed Grease! I didn't know how to sing, and I still don't. But at 40 years old, I still remember how to do that twisting sorta side-step dance. Heel twist, toe twist, heel twist , toe twist.

During high school summers I took extra math classes. And yes, I was a math-lete!

So don't think of this as the kind of summer school you have to attend because you didn't do so strongly during the year, but rather think about it as a chance to get ahead. Ahead of your colleagues. Ahead of your business. Ahead of 99% of the 2 billion Google Sheets users.

What's this About?

For me the most important thing to get spreadsheets to do is to automate them. You can't automate if you don't know how to code. So I'd focus on Apps Script and getting you absolutely in love with what Apps Script and coding can do. And how easy it is to actually do.

I do the same thing now, that I did 10 years ago when I learned apps script, I google for the answer.

There are so much documentation, and forum questions, and ai can help you too.

But there are some basical fundementals you really should know, that even AI can't necessarily help you with. Just having an overall understanding of what's possible in sheets, where to put code and how to conquer errors is going to get you ahead.

So for 1 week I'd love to focus on coding coding coding!

Isn't this available already?

Yes, I did workshops like this 2 years ago and those workshops ultimately became Spreadsheet Automation 101.

You can take that on your own. Without signing up for this Spreadsheet Summer School. It's a very straight forward dive into apps script. Getting data from the sheet to the script, then back again. And includes getting info from an API. I've expanded on the API's in the course: Supercharge Your Sheets but it's not as much hand holding. It's really a huge amount of awesome examples. And just going over them one by one.

And if you're interested in doing anything with AI in sheets, you can keep going with Adventures in AI.

All 3 of those courses are combined into "Master Spreadsheet Automation" on Udemy, for non-members.

What is specific to Spreadsheet Summer School?

What's unique about this summer school, is that it is live. It's me. I'm there every day.

But you probably want to know exactly what you'll learn:

• How to code in Google Sheets (Apps Script)
• Get data in and out of the code and do cool stuff to it.
• Access API's around the web and get data into Sheets.
• Get data from sheets into an API (and how to read API docs even if you've never used one before)
• Get AI into sheets easily and simply (and do cool stuff)
• How to overcome errors in your code (conquer error codes and read logs to see what your code is doing)

Schedule?

I'm considering 3 different schedules. They range from weekly to intense.

1 day a week for 5 weeks (think last full week of July onwards)

3 days a week for 2 weeks

5 days in one week (Intense)

I'm also trying to figure out which days (if it's weekly) and times. Depending on where you are, if you'd like to do this Summer School I can be flexible to a certain degree. But I was thinking around either 5 PM PST (L.A/San Fran EOD, Time) or 7 AM EST (NY Breakfast TIME). Meaning this could work even if you do have a day job.
