MIDDI - MIDDI Goes to ... Copenhagen
In search of the finer things in life — because the finest ones still cost too much.It goes without saying that traveling costs can add up quickly. As I’ve gotten older, my travel preferences have definitely changed. I’m looking for, let’s say, more comfort when it comes to the hotels I book and how I get from point A to point B. Have I gotten more fussy? Ask my husband. I prefer the word “discerning.” That’s why I wanted to share more of my mid-priced finds from my travels to share how I get the most out of each destination without blowing my budget. This new monthly feature will include accommodations, sightseeing and, of course, shopping. For our first stop, we’re heading back to my favorite adventure of 2022: Copenhagen. Located next to both Copenhagen Central Station and Tivoli Gardens (a must-see), Villa Copenhagen is a gorgeous hotel housed in the former headquarters of the Danish post office. Originally built in 1912, the hotel is just a stone’s throw from Strøget, the city’s main shopping street, as well as the Meat Packing district. The interior is everything you’d expect — minimal, calm and elegant — making it the perfect place to lay your head after a day of exploring. The hotel also boasts some excellent food and drink options, as well as a rooftop pool and spa. As a lover of Scandinavian design, a visit to Designmuseum Denmark was a trip highlight. I also recommend strolling along the Nyhavn Canal, playing games in the aforementioned Tivoli Gardens, wandering Amalienborg Palace and marveling at the decor inside Frederik’s Church. For food and drink, I’ll be honest, this is a pricey town. Our most memorable finds were the sandwiches at Smagsløget, the seafood at Krogs and the fairy tale-inspired cocktails at Nimb Bar. And if you want to cross another country off your list, Lund, Sweden, is less than an hour’s journey by train. Man, oh man, is Copenhagen a fantastic place to lose your entire paycheck. I arrived in the city with a list of shops to check out, and they didn’t disappoint. For shoes, I love the timeless styles at Anonymous Copenhagen and the quirky bags at Mads Nørgaard (previously featured here). Grab some comfy athleisure from MSCH Copenhagen and wardrobe essentials at Arket or head to Samsøe Samsøe for the best of everything. HAY is your one-stop shop for home goods, and a trip to Normal is good for skin care, chocolate and a bevy of other random buys. In case you missed it … MIDDI is a weekly newsletter highlighting the best mid-priced beauty, fashion and home buys written by a millennial with a (somewhat under control) shopping problem.
