The NFT community saw a resurgence of interest in CryptoKitties, one of the oldest Ethereum-based NFT collections, which launched in 2017. CryptoKitties quietly released an open-edition mint of its ‘Eggs’ collection on 30 August, with each piece priced at 0.008 ETH (~US$20). The NFTs’ average sales price reached 0.33 ETH (~$810) on 3 September, over 40 times the mint price. The floor price is 0.15 ETH (~$355) at the time of writing.

This surge is attributed to the community's push to revive the CryptoKitties platform and revitalise its presence in the NFT space.

News Highlights

• Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) announced a partnership with BMW to create a Bored Ape-themed luxury car and a collaboration with Bored Ape Brewing Company to produce a canned beer featuring unique Bored Ape designs. These initiatives aim to elevate BAYC's brand beyond digital art, merging it with luxury products and beverages. 

• Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) launched a new mini-game called Dookey Dash: Unclogged that offers a total of $1 million in prizes. It is designed to engage the BAYC community and enhance user interaction within the ecosystem.

• ApeCoin unveiled its strategic plan for ApeChain, focusing on content, tools, and distribution to enhance user experience and developer engagement. The ‘blueprint’ includes launching an ecosystem website in September 2024 to help users discover and engage with dapps; introducing tools to promote competition and user interaction; leveraging partnerships; and integrating with Arbitrum’s Stylus to simplify coding and reduce gas fees.

• Mysten Labs, the company behind the Sui blockchain, and gaming startup Playtron launched a gaming device integrating the Sui blockchain called SuiPlay0X1. Available for preorder at $599, the device can play PC games and Sui-powered games like XOCIETY and DARKTIMES. Preorders can be paid in SUI, ETH, or SOL. The delivery is expected in the first half of 2025.

• Major Japanese financial firm SBI Holdingspartnered with Oasys, a blockchain platform for Web3 gaming, on several initiatives, including a funding round from SBI Holdings to improve the liquidity of Oasys's native token.
