What you loved in September

Six of Wirecutter's top picks of September.

This past month, readers bid summer adieu with picks to help them prep for a cozy autumn. They got ready for nesting season with new towels and reading lights. They revamped their home offices with new chairs and standing desks. And some very early birds geared up for impending chilly weather with our top-pick space heater—and artificial Christmas trees, to boot.

Plus: What we bought

A peek at what landed in your newsletter editors’ carts this month:

  • Haley claims this (on sale!) bread knife changed her relationship with the crusty sourdough loaves she often brings home from the market. The blade breezes straight through them—and makes her morning toast feel less like arm day.
  • Brittney picked up a new cashmere sweater that she calls “the perfect combination of slouchy-meets-polished.” It’s whisper-soft, extremely cozy, and will look great paired with jeans or a long skirt.
  • Isoke bought one of Wirecutter’s favorite pillows. She’s normally a side-sleeper, but when her cat, Atlas, decides to nap on her chest, she moonlights as a back-sleeper. She needed a new pillow to meet his demands. So far? Everyone’s comfy.
  • Finally, Sofia took a leap and replaced her trusty old Maybelline mascara with two favorites from our mascara guide—and is loving both. In fact, the Thrive one is so lengthening, it has her reconsidering her semi-regular lash lifts (!).

One last thing: Halloween is officially around the corner

October 1st means one thing and one thing only for some Wirecutter staffers: It’s finally time to decorate. As seen on the chair of one such spooky-season-loving staffer, this black cat throw pillow is simply adorable. It’s a (new!) favorite in our guide to the best Halloween decor, alongside a positively wiggly candelabra, some matte black pillar candles, and a tiny ghost light.
