It’s Friday so we’re listening to something slightly more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Hannah Peel, a Northern Irish composer and multi-instrumentalist based in London. We were reminded of Peel’s work via The Quietus’s piece on Loula Yorke, whom we recommended on Monday, and we realized we haven’t recommended Peel’s albums yet. She studied violin, trombone, and piano at university in Liverpool, has arranged for orchestral performance, and scored several films and TV series.¹ On her 2021 record, Fir Wave, she samples ‘70s electronic sounds from the label KPM to create genre-fluid instrumentals.² We’re also playing 2017’s Mary Casio: Journey to Cassiopeia, a cosmological collection of analog synth and brass band pieces.
