Prison was in the crypto news this week as both CZ (Changpeng Zhao), the CEO of Binance, and Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram, were recently released from prison while Caroline Ellison (or FTX fame) was sentenced to two years for her part in that debacle (the relatively lenient sentence handed down due to her cooperation with the investigation).

And while Uptober may not be the meteoric rise in crypto prices that many seemed to be expecting, the overall sentiment is still bullish with big name players such as Michael Saylor making bold predictions for the future of Bitcoin’s value.

Is it Uptober yet?

October, often referred to as Uptober in the crypto scene, has long been known as a time of year where we generally see token prices on the rise. This particular October has bucked the trend in that regard, with a rather sharp decline in crypto value — double digits in most cases.

Some blame the conflict in the Middle East for this. Or perhaps it’s the uncertainty around the U.S Presidential Election. Or maybe Uptober was just an imagined pattern that had no real meaning. But whatever the reason, as usual, daily fluctuations in token values don’t have a huge effect on development plans (for the most part). And many web3 game developers are leaning into Uptober, with Heroes of Mavia planning special NFT mints all month, Gods Unchained launching a new expansion, Pulsar mainnet going live, and much, much more!

Telegram no so private after all - will this affect TON chain?

Pavel Durov was released this week after spending most of the past month being held by authorities in France over failure to reply to requests from French government entities in regards to revealing user information from the Telegram platform.

Long see as a strong supporter of privacy, Telegram is used by millions of people worldwide. But, shortly after his release, Durov dropped a bombshell on many users when he revealed that Telegram has long complied with local governments, providing user data, including IP addresses, when requested by authorities. Apparently this has been going on since 2018. This news sent shockwaves through the Telegram space as many users had believed that their personal info was completely private on the Telegram app.

Though this report caused a brief shift in Toncoin value, it’s unlikely to have any long-term affect on the TON chain or the growth of the web3 gaming scene on Telegram. In fact, the web3 gaming scene on Telegram only continues to grow with seemingly everyone rushing to put out a Telegram-based gaming app!
