Power BI Weekly #280 - 17th October 2024
Power BI Weekly Newsletter Issue #280
powered by endjin
Welcome to the 280th edition of Power BI Weekly! A handful of announcements this week. First of all we have the Power BI October 2024 Feature Summary, where there are quite a few interesting updates, so let's go through a few of them. There's been an update to the Power BI enhanced report format (PBIR), including the ability to publish PBIRs from Power BI Desktop and upload them to/download them from a workspace. There's an update to Visual calculations (preview) where Combo charts and field parameters are now supported. There's a new List Slicer (Preview) which offers a great array of customization options, including things like different slicer shapes and the ability to style different states of slicer selections. And the final one I'd like to point out (important for you DAXers out there) is the new Value filter behavior (preview), which aims to mitigate the issues with auto-exist that Alberto described in his article from a few years ago: Understanding DAX Auto-Exist.
Elsewhere this week, Rui Romano has expanded on the Live edit of Direct Lake models in Power BI Desktop feature recently announced, Shannon Lindsay has Announced the retirement of real-time streaming in Power BI, and Nikki Waghani has shared with us the On-premises data gateway October 2024 release. And outside of announcements this week, a couple of articles: Milan Mejzr has shown how to create a Single tooltip page for different measures & different visuals, and Chris Webb has written a post in response to a Twitter/X thread giving his views on Why Would You Use Power BI Copilot?.
