Here’s Every 2025 Color of the Year (So Far)

Color experts are to autumn what Michael Bublé is to the holidays—re-emerging annually in full force to spread seasonal cheer. Since late summer, we’ve been rolling out the 2025 Color of the Year reveals from Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Behr, and more. These selections have been known to set the tone for trends across interiors, fashion, industrial design, and beyond for the year ahead.

But have you ever wondered how this annual phenomenon came to be? As Lauren Gallow reports in our 2024 Color Trends Report, the first Color of the Year appeared in 1999, a moment when the world stood on the precipice of a new millennium, and international color authority Pantone had the bright idea to choose a color to signify this pivotal moment. They selected a calm, cerulean blue that embodied a sense of serenity and constancy, and therefore offered a visual salve to Y2K anxiety.

Indeed, the annual selections often have less to do with trend research and are generally more driven by the aesthetic and cultural zeitgeist. Today, looking into 2025, we find ourselves stepping into the new once again. Will these forecasts ring true? We’re waiting and watching.
