Transforming the lives of others

Veronica Taylor, CFP® is a member of Ellevest’s all-women team of financial planners. This is her incredible career journey.

“This journey started for me ten years ago, when I was pregnant with my third child. I decided I was going to break the cycle of living paycheck to paycheck, and this is when my husband and I paid off $79,000 in 13 months.

At that time, I was like most women: I didn’t feel like I could trust anyone with my money.

Then in 2017, I heard about Ellevest through a coworker and rolled my retirement accounts over. It was then that I met with an Ellevest financial planner who, of course, answered a lot of my financial questions.

I was blown away by the difference it made in my life. And I wanted to share that knowledge and feeling with everyone I knew.

It was also during this time that I was working as a creative director at a digital marketing agency that I started, called 301 Wealth; ‘301’ means redirect. I wanted to redirect wealth to the Black community to do my part to close the racial wealth divide. For a few years, I helped people set and achieve unique financial goals.

It was then that I wanted to switch careers to align with my new purpose in life — helping others in my community reach financial freedom. So I reached out to my Ellevest financial planner to learn more about becoming a CFP® professional. She shared advice with me on different career paths I could take and how to pursue my education. She became a mentor to me.

I applied for and received a scholarship for my education requirements from the Association of African American Financial Advisors (AAAA). With that scholarship, I also gained another mentor who helped me develop a plan to not only find a job while I was studying but to also pass the exam.

And I did. I passed the exam on my first attempt. It was the hardest thing I had ever done.

I then saw that Ellevest (my career crush!) was hiring. I applied — and got the job! I’ve been here at Ellevest ever since.

Working at a mission-driven company was very important to me. I didn’t just get into financial planning to transform my life. I got into it to transform the lives of others.

That’s what brings me to work every day. Helping clients pay down debt. Helping clients break the generational cycle of living paycheck to paycheck. Guiding clients to build their financial legacies, so that we can all ultimately close the gender wealth gap and racial wealth divide. I’m very fulfilled.”
