Thanksgiving is nearly here. Sure, your turkey might still be basting—but how’s your tablescape? If you’re searching for throwback or more contemporary ideas for yours, there’s no better place to look than in the pages of AD, where dining tables didn’t begin to feature heavily til the ’70s. Since then, we’ve spilled ink on spreads from tastemakers and power brokers of all sorts—from the late US senator Ted Kennedy, whose dining tableau featured the family’s heirloom Irish silver, to Lee Radziwill’s self-designed all-red room from our 1975 issue. My personal favorite is the baroque, crystal-lit dining chamber designed by Axel Vervoordt, partially because it varies so much from the stark, wabi-sabi style he’s known for today—range is an excellent asset to have, whether you’re envisioning a project or a dinner party!
