Issue 341 - Free supercharging and FSD offer extended for new Teslas

Software Updates

New anti-door-opening feature in Tesla update 2024.44 ðŸ“¹
Tesla’s software update 2024.44 introduces a feature designed to prevent door openings when it’s unsafe. Drivers can override it with a second button press, ensuring minimal risk of entrapment. It’s great to see Tesla continue improving the safety of our cars.

Trip planner backend overhauled and upgraded
Tesla's Trip Planner has undergone a significant backend rewrite, enhancing its functionality and introducing features such as setting a desired arrival charge.

FSD & ASS

Rigorous testing of every FSD release: 16 examples 📹
Tesla ensures the robustness of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature through stringent testing of each release, challenging the system with rare and difficult scenarios on closed courses. The company has highlighted 16 specific tests, such as the 'Reverse Cut-in (Occluded),' to showcase the depth of their evaluation processes.

Actually Smart Summon (ASS) now available in Europe & Middle East
Tesla owners in Europe and the Middle East are now receiving the Actually  Smart Summon feature, expanding its availability beyond North America. This update enables vehicles to navigate parking lots and come to their owners with just a tap in the app, making parking experiences more convenient.

FSD now on Canadian Cybertrucks 📹
Cybertruck owners in Canada are starting to receive the Full Self-Driving (FSD) update with software version 2024.39.5 and FSD v12.5.5.3, following its initial exclusion when the vehicles were first delivered. Early reports by owners like Dare on X acclaim the performance of FSD on the Cybertruck, especially with the newer HW4/AI4 computer. The update coincides with the introduction of Cybertruck demo drives across Canada, enhancing the potential buyer's experience.

Charging

Tesla enhances supercharging for all EVs
Tesla's latest software update fine-tunes stall availability predictions for Superchargers by accounting for different charge port locations on other EVs. They're also planning to replace short-cable Superchargers with long-cable V4 posts and have modified 1,500 sites to increase accessibility. Additionally, Tesla encourages other manufacturers to standardize charge port placements in a way that cars can use only one spot while charging and optimize the space to match the majority of their 30k+ global Superchargers.

Incentives

Free supercharging and FSD offer extended for new Teslas
Tesla ramps up its end-of-year promotions by offering three months of free Supercharging and Full Self-Driving (Supervised) to those who purchase any new Tesla model and take delivery by December 31, 2024. The extended offer now applies to custom orders, not just inventory vehicles, but the deal is off the table if delivery extends past the cut-off date—no exceptions. Elsewhere, Tesla's Q4 global incentives include appealing 0% financing deals and even home charging perks in Texas.

Enhanced Tesla referral program offers big perks
Tesla has refreshed its referral program with more enticing benefits. North American customers can now enjoy up to $2,000 off new vehicle purchases, including the Cybertruck. The updated referral rewards are at an all-time high, offering up to $1,000 USD or $1,300 CAD for each successful referral, with the option to accumulate discounts or apply rewards toward various Tesla products and services. Additionally, avid referrers could earn an invite to a special Tesla event, and the good news for those who maxed out their previous referral caps is that counts have been reset.

New Products

Musk shares plan for affordable Optimus and Robotaxi
Elon Musk has outlined Tesla's approach to making its Robotaxi and Optimus Bot affordable, highlighting the necessity for massive production scales to hit a $60,000 combined price point for both. The planned affordability targets are sub-$30,000 for each, aiming to match the cost of a regular car. While Optimus impressed at the We, Robot event, and autonomous bots are active in Tesla factories, widespread consumer release and affordability hinge on future production exceeding a million units per year.

🤓 What the acronym
As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.

  • ASS: Actually Smart Summon
  • EV: Electric Vehicle
  • FSD: Full Self-Driving
  • OTA: Over-the-air (software update)
