Issue 338 - Blind spot safety for parked vehicles

Hardware Updates

Tesla tops North American parts content for 2025 models
Tesla's 2025 vehicle lineup has been reported to contain the highest percentage of North American-made parts, tying in first place with Honda for the Model 3 Long Range at 75% North American parts. Notably, the Model S and Model X also have high percentages at 65% and 60% respectively, outperforming many competitors, including the Detroit Big Three. Tesla's Cybertruck also ranks high in American-made content among EV trucks, with plans to increase this percentage further in the future.

Community

Innovative ChatGPT & Tesla integration for on-the-go orders 📹
A Tesla owner has innovatively integrated ChatGPT with their vehicle, enabling the ability to order coffee directly from the car. The community is showing interest but also expressing concerns regarding app permissions and the need for an Android version. The functionality has sparked a thread of feature requests and discussions about potential expansions, including route efficiency tools and language support.

Software Updates

Cybertruck gets Sentry Mode energy-saving update
Tesla has released a long-awaited software update to tackle the high energy consumption of Sentry Mode, originally promised for Q2, yet it's currently exclusive to the Cybertruck, particularly sightings in Mexico. While Drew Baglino had previously mentioned a potential 40% reduction in power drain, this specific update didn't reach our own Model Y, suggesting Tesla might be rolling it out gradually. Additionally, the 2024.38.4 update introduces enhancements to Track Mode with an adjustable Powertrain Endurance feature for better performance during extended track sessions.

Tesla app update enhances service and roadside menus ðŸ“·
The Tesla App's latest update has brought an intuitive visual interface to the Service and Roadside sections, simplifying the way owners can specify the areas of their vehicles that require attention. Specifically designed for the Model 3 and Model Y, including the 2024 Highland refresh, the interface allows users to visually select exterior and tire-related issues with ease. While not yet available for Models S, X, or Cybertruck, this update continues Tesla's trend of streamlining the customer service experience through technology.

Tesla enhances blind spot safety for parked vehicles
Tesla's latest software update has refined the blind spot warning feature, a move that increases vehicle safety. Now, even when the car is parked, if an occupant tries to open a door while a moving object is detected in the blind spot, such as a cyclist or another car, the system will alert with a flash, sound a warning, and prevent the door from opening on the first attempt.

FSD

October roundup: exciting updates and what's next for FSD
Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) October updates have seen significant advancements with the v12.5.6.1 release reaching around 50k users and improvements in the Cybertruck's responsiveness. Looking forward, Tesla plans a wider rollout to all AI4 users, major technology upgrades in the upcoming v13, and enhancements like smoother stops and better audio inputs for emergency vehicles. We can anticipate the substantial FSD upgrades with v13.3 for AI4 around Thanksgiving, promising a smoother and safer driving experience.

FSD v13 to incorporate audio for emergency response
Full Self-Driving (FSD) version 13 is set to enhance Tesla's responsiveness to emergency vehicles by adding audio input capabilities. This update will allow FSD to react to audible sirens and alarms using the vehicle's internal microphone, a significant shift from its current vision-only system. The feature is expected to roll out to HW4/AI4 vehicles in late November, though earlier sightings suggest it may already be in action for some users.

Superchargers
Supercharging now easier for Tesla towing and hauling
Tesla has enhanced the Supercharging experience for customers who tow, introducing a new map feature that highlights Supercharger locations with trailer-compatible parking spots. These locations are easily accessible in Tow Mode, positioned at the top of the list for convenience. This feature is a significant boon for those using their Tesla vehicles for hauling, ensuring they can prepare their trips with suitable charging stops, making the process smoother and less stressful.

Tesla Hollywood diner to feature a 45-foot LED screen 📷
Tesla's new Hollywood diner is raising the Supercharger experience with the installation of a 45-foot LED screen, where customers can enjoy movie clips as they charge and dine. The addition of this entertainment feature complements the already exciting diner launch, and it's reported that a second screen will be added soon. With the glass door now in place, it seems the diner's completion is just around the (Hollywood) corner!

🤓 What the acronym
As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.

  • EV: Electric Vehicle
  • FSD: Full Self-Driving
  • HW4: Autopilot Hardware version 4
