Cursor I really really like Cursor. I had a great time using VS Code + Github Copilot. I found the autocomplete to be such a huge time saver. But Cursor, which proposes new code changes by guessing my intents, is 10x better. As open-source developer I always had Copilot for free and yet I switched to using Cursor ($20/month). That’s the best $20 I spend every month.
Ghostty If you’re looking for a new terminal emulator, Ghostty is pretty rad. It’s supposed to be faster than the best of them (iTerm, Warp, etc). A nice touch is the lack of settings pane: press ⌘, and you get dropped into a text editor to edit the configuration file (which is fully documented online). Available for macOS and Linux and you can install with brew install --cask ghostty .

I work alone, so code reviews go fast because I do them myself.
But, they also went fast when I worked on a team because I did them myself then too. And then after I reviewed and fixed my own code, I would post the PR.
If reviews are slowing you down, make sure that you didn't cause that by posting unfinished work.
Do this for your own well-being. When you find your own problems, it boosts your self-esteem. When someone else points out your flaws, it doesn’t.

OrbStack I hate Docker but sometimes I need to use it, so going to try out OrbStack. Supposed to be better and faster and it’s free for personal non-commercial use. brew install orbstack
Introducing S2 Serverless streaming logs:
With S2, you are elevated to the natural granularity of records. Writes to an S2 stream are appended at the tail, and even if multiple writers are acting at a time, S2 will durably sequence all records. S2 takes care of serving your reads efficiently, whether you need to start streaming from seconds ago or years. Streams can also be tailed in real-time, which is not possible with a blob in S3.
Meilisearch Lightning-fast search engine with power of AI. In closed beta right now, and there's a self-hosted open-source version to get you started.
When you send a search query, Meilisearch will generate an embedding for the query using the configured embedder and then use it to find the most semantically similar documents in the vector store.

we're firm believers that the best time to write the docs for a thing is as you learn it for the very first time. the longer you wait, the harder you'll find it to remember all the tiny details that tripped you up.

Career Advice for New Tech Workers in 2025
Ultimately, your career is about learning, growing, and being part of a team that values you. … Stay focused on what matters to you, take care of yourself, and don’t be afraid to move on if the job isn’t fulfilling your needs.
Multitasking in video meetings causes the same cognitive drop as smoking weed
If you have nothing to say, if there are no actions, if there are too many people, and if you have nothing to learn, you may as well skip the meeting rather than multitask, as you shouldn’t have been at the meeting in the first place.

So I just watched a confrontation over parking play out in front of my house. Giant truck cut off a little smart car trying to back into a spot.
Smart car driver honks. Truck driver rolls down a window and yells “fuck off i’m trying to find a place to park”. Smart car driver rolls down his window and says “hey, calm down, take care of yourself, i love your dumb ass” and then drives off.
Truck driver and his wife exit the vehicle and look bewildered and lost before wandering off.

The Walmart Effect “New research suggests that the company makes the communities it operates in poorer—even taking into account its famous low prices.”
It’s very simple math. A Walmart in your area could save you $3K/year on groceries, but at the same time it will bring salaries in your area down by $5K/year — and that's across all industries not just retail. So if you're seeing a new Walmart opening nearby, maybe time to relocate to a better place.

The economics of unused gift cards In some cultures the gift you give a person is cash in an envelope. In the US culture the gift you give a person is … a gift card. Which is the best gift you can give if — and only if — you’re the corporation that doesn’t have to pay out 10~20% of that gift card money and can use that unredeemed balance as a “breakage income” tax deduction.

How to Make LLMs Shut Up I guess AI is now in the business of doing code review.
Remarkably - this works! It turns out that most nits can be placed into a small number of clusters. Users downvote nit comments, and when enough comments of the same type are downvoted, the bot can filter out any new comments of that type.

If Charles Dickens was born 200 years later, "A Christmas Story" would tell the heartwarming tale of a miserly healthcare CEO who is visited by three spirits: the Ghost of Deny, the Ghost of Defend, and the Ghost of Depose. And then, having learned nothing and changed zero of his ways, is shot to death on the steps of his beloved business by Luigi Cratchit.
