The DO Lectures - A Story About a Front Door

Hi there,

When we moved into our house over 12 years ago, the front door had a certain quirk—it was a little stiff to close.

At first, we barely noticed.

But with each passing year, it got harder to close.
With each passing year, we learned to push harder.
We learned to put up with it.

We didn’t complain. It became the new normal. Isn’t it odd how that happens?

Fast forward to last week: our builders, who’ve worked with us for years, were back. This time, they were remodelling the downstairs bathroom.

They noticed the door.

Without a word, they spent two hours fixing it. They’d had enough of struggling to move materials in and out.

And just like that, something that had been broken for over a decade was suddenly… fixed.

I stood there, stunned and a little embarrassed.

For years, I’d walked through that door, muttering under my breath, yet doing nothing.

Now, it opens and closes without any effort.

The first time I closed the door after it had been repaired, I used my usual amount of effort - I nearly broke the glass.

What was hard to close was suddenly so easy.

That moment taught me three things:

We all have a “front door” in our lives—something that needs fixing but gets ignored.
The longer we put up with it, the more normal the struggle feels.
Sometimes, it takes someone else to point it out—or fix it for us.

If there’s a “stiff door” in your life that’s holding you back, don’t let it remain a fixture in 2025.

Let this be the year you fix what you didn’t in 2024.
