Miru is developing “dynamic electrochromic window technology” that enables window manufacturers to create windows that uniformly tint. Its “eWindow” technology is capable of working on windows of varying curvatures and claims to offer low haze, neutral gray color, and more. First came the smartphone. Then, smartwatches and smart TVs. Now, smart glass (not to be confused with smart glasses). Miru is making windows intelligent, and the way it’s doing it is just as clever as the underlying technology.

First, Miru licenses its technology to manufacturers instead of manufacturing windows in-house. This enables the company to focus on improving the technology and scaling adoption, completely sidestepping the challenge of manufacturing and selling windows. Since its

technology is designed to work with any glass fabricator that meets industry standard requirements, Miru’s technology is relatively straightforward to adopt. This competitive advantage allows Miru to scale adoption quickly.

Second, there are a variety of applications that can benefit from Miru’s windows, from architectural to automotive and many other applications. This means Miru has a large market of potential customers. Moreover, the efficiency and climate benefits of eWindows are universal, regardless of the application, meaning many industries are incentivized to license the technology.
