For weeks, Donald Trump has been openly threatening to expel the entire Palestinian population of Gaza and turn it into an ethnically cleansed U.S.-occupied seaside resort. Now, Israel has imposed a complete blockade on humanitarian aid for a population already facing widespread starvation, and it appears to be only a matter of time before Benjamin Netanyahu fully resumes his genocidal war on Gaza to “finish the job.” Meanwhile, much of the corporate media has stopped even acknowledging the horrific suffering of the Palestinian people, and the Trump administration has launched a major crackdown on pro-Palestinian speech in the U.S., targeting universities, activists, lawyers, and journalists. In this moment, The Intercept stands nearly alone in covering Israel’s war on Gaza without devaluing Palestinian lives or acting as apologists for genocide, and we must be prepared for the Trump administration to come after us as well. Facing these threats, The Intercept simply cannot survive without the generous financial support of readers like you, and to remain on solid financial footing, we need to add 4,000 new monthly donors by April 1. If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: As a fiercely independent nonprofit news outlet, we don’t hide our journalism behind a paywall. We don’t put ads on our website, and we don’t get funding from the government. We rely on donations from you, our readers. But we need to be completely honest with you. There’s never been a more difficult time to survive as an independent news outlet. For years, the entire journalism industry has been battered by layoffs. Digital news outlets once heralded as the future are shutting down right and left as Big Tech oligarchs like Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk throttle traffic to legitimate news sources. Add to those threats a U.S. president hellbent on crushing any source of news that he considers “the enemy of the people,” and the crisis we face is existential. The Intercept’s loyal base of monthly donors are absolutely critical to our ability to remain strong while others have shut down — and that’s why it’s so important that we meet our spring fundraising drive goal of adding 4,000 new monthly donors by April 1. ![]() Thank you,
The Intercept team
