Top women investors in Portugal

Like the rest of Europe, Portugal's entrepreneurial ecosystem has a problem with gender diversity; less than 10% of founders are women.

Yet when it comes to scientists and engineers in Portugal, 51% are women.

Tim Smith asks leading female investors.

Enough nepotism

If you want to get an internship at a venture capital firm, it often goes like this: you ask your dad who’s an investor or your mate from business school who’s a VC to get you one β€” or you just don’t get through the door.

Merit, a new kind of training programme for wannabe VCs which launches in beta today, hopes to offer an alternative β€” more meritocratic β€” route in.

But can it convince VCs to change their nepotistic ways? Amy Lewin finds out.

Social entrepreneurs aren't always the good guys

These days, seems like everyone wants to be a 'social entrepreneur' or building 'tech for good'. Good old-fashioned money making isn't as popular as it used to be.

Except that's a false dichotomy, argues Nicolas Colin; not all capitalists are building companies the world doesn't need, and not all social entrepreneurs are having an enormously positive impact.

Let's rethink things.

Germany, let's talk mental health

β€œThe topic of mental health at work has been a taboo for too long,” says Lisa Meyer, marketing director at Olaf, a wellbeing platform for remote employees based in Berlin.

Workplaces in Germany, she adds, have been especially oblivious to the importance of mental health compared to their European neighbours.

β€œBut the Covid-19 pandemic might finally help break the mental health stigma."
