Happy Birthday, ADA! | A Goal For Women | A Tonic For Equality

Hello and welcome to a new edition of the Upturn, the newsletter born out of the desire to do something that will improve the communities within our reach.

We often hear that
diversity improves business performance, but that result comes at the end of a process of creating an environment where employees can bring their authentic selves to work.

This is what I've learned this week after reading about Edith Cooper, who has had a 20-year career as an executive at Goldman Sachs and has now teamed up with her daughter Jordan Taylor to
help young professionals gain the skills they need to walk the line between professionalism and open expression.

More stories that
champion diversity of perspectives and experiences below.

In the
Upside, a new women’s soccer team is born and an entrepreneur reinvents himself as a chicken breeder.

In
Up-And-Coming, a music virtual academy is ensuring highschoolers can still access empowerment and education through the summer and a veteran of the healthcare and pharma industry is fighting for gender and racial inclusion.

In
Uplifting, a look back at what the American Disabilities Act has accomplished in its 30 years of existence, and a focus on two charities are working to bring a majestic mammal back to British woodlands.

Finally, in the
Wrap-up, the numbers making a difference this week are 10, 11, 12.

His 800 acre-farm in Arkansas, is the only vertically integrated poultry producer in the U.S. that has an independent genetics operation to breed better, free-range chickens.

In its 30 years of existence, the American Disabilities Act (ADA) has made a difference to a vast number of people, protecting their rights to access education, employment, government services, as well as telecommunications and physical locations. Here are some of those stories.

Majestic Mammals

One of wildlife’s most majestic mammals, the bison will be re-introduced in spring 2022 into a 2,500-acre natural area in southeastern England. This is part of two charities’ conservation efforts in the U.K., as it’s hoped that the presence of these herbivores and other grazing animals will create the greatest biodiversity possible.
