Popping in with a fun update.

The Story of Us has one (big) chapter left (it was gonna be two but I ended up combining them into one). That chapter is just about finished.

But a couple months ago, there was a new development. I’ve gotten a ton of feedback from readers throughout the course of posting this monster, and two of the most common comments have gone something like this:

“I really wish you’d make this a book.”

“I like the series and want to share it, but it’s hard to get people to read something so long.”

These both make a lot of sense—I’d feel the same way if I were a reader.

So we’re making it a book.

At first I was like, “cool, easy, I’ll just read through it and make a few little tweaks, ship the series to a publisher, and that’s that.”

Then I realized that it was actually a massive ordeal. Here’s why:

First, after posting the series and listening to reader feedback, I’ve learned a lot about how the series could be improved.

Second, a blog series is a different thing than a book. I don’t want the book to feel like a blog series that someone put into a book—I want it to feel like a book that was written to be a book.

After spending time working on both of these objectives, the final product is really its own thing and pretty different than the series (though with the same overarching ideas).

Publishing a book takes a while, even after the manuscript is done, so we decided the best order of operations was to prioritize getting this manuscript finished so the book could be published as soon as possible. Then, once that ball was rolling, I’d return to the final installment of the series and finish that. I’m almost ready to make that transition back to the series.

We’re really excited about the book. It’s a shorter, tighter, clearer version of the series—something that laser focuses on the specific message I want to get across, with the goal of having that message reach as many people as possible.

I spent so long on this series because the topic seems really important and pretty urgent. Publishing this both online for free and as a book seems like the best way to achieve maximum impact.

I’ll be back with more info once there’s actually a book publish date. But for now, just wanted to keep you in the loop!
