  • Facebook inadvertently brings humor to 2020 with the news they're going to sue the EU for… wait for it… invasion of privacy! [bbc.com]
  • Google continues to abuse its market power, says Adrianne Jeffries and Leon Yin. “If Google can train you, don’t go to Genius, don’t go to TripAdvisor, don’t go to the restaurant’s website, just come to Google—always come to Google—then they win.” [themarkup.org]
  • If you use voice apps with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, privacy risks increase. "In their survey of voice app privacy policy content, researchers found the bulk didn’t clearly define what data collection the apps were capable of," says Kyle Wiggers. [venturebeat.com]
  • Good news for US and EU citizens as Privacy Shield, which allowed transfer of personal data between those regions, is scrapped. The US government needs to pass "meaningful, strong, and comprehensive privacy legislation" and curtail its surveillance, says Access Now. [accessnow.org]
  • Now it's Australia's turn to take Google to court for privacy violations. “The ACCC considers that consumers effectively pay for Google’s services with their data, so […] Google increased the ‘price’ of Google’s services, without consumers’ knowledge.” [abcnews.go.com]
  • If your site is used by children in the US, you need to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The National Law Review has a rundown. [natlawreview.com]

And finally, a study by KPMG found that almost 9 out of 10 Americans agree that privacy is a human right – that's promising news! [techrepublic.com]
