Issue 123 - Cybertruck, the truck that will kick ass

Software Updates

Upcoming software update 2020.32

While 2020.28.6 is rolling out with bug fixes, 2020.32 will be coming soon introducing some interesting new things (I'm guessing Model X owners will particularly like the first one):

  • Get notifications on your phone when your car is left open (yay!)
  • Suspension settings improvements
  • Notifications history improvements

Autopilot may soon render all Teslas with their own model and color

It seems that soon - ElonTime™ - Autopilot may render all Tesla models with their own model and color instead of showing an image of a generic sedan/ SUV. TBH, I was expecting that to be the case when I first got my Model S almost three years ago. Cybertruck would get its own renderization as well.

Cybertruck & Model Y

Cybertruck, the truck that will kick ass

We've heard the man saying Tesla's goal is to make cars 'the most fun possible'. Well, with the Cybertruck, a new goal seems to be 'to kick the most amount of ass possible'. Specifically, Elon Musk said: "We want it to be something you could use to tow a boat, a horse trailer, pull tree stumps out of the ground, go off-roading and you don’t have to worry about scratching the paint because there is no paint. You could just be smashing boulders and be fine." How can one not be excited about this vehicle?

A more affordable Model Y?

Tesla might be close to making the Model Y decidedly more affordable. Electrek sources claim the automaker has begun trial production of a Model Y RWD LR version that would lower the price compared to the AWD models. Production trial is one of the last steps toward bringing a new version of a vehicle to market.

Model Y door labels

Have you ever had to explain a passenger in your Model 3 how to open the door? Did you end up getting a door label kit like this one? No more! Tesla has started properly labeling the door handles in the Model Y, hoping they will make this change in Model 3 as well.

Maintenance & Protection

Tire rotation on a Performance Model 3 📹

Informational video on proper tire rotation on a Tesla Model 3 Performance (AWD) along with rims and calipers cleaning. If you're giving this a try at home, remember to always be careful and if you're not sure what you're doing, just leave it for the experts.

BTW, if you're looking for a safe jack, here's one we recommend.

All you ever wanted to know about Paint Protection for your Tesla

This is a guest blog post by Truong-Thang Pham, a fellow Tesla owner and enthusiast from the Tesla Owners of East Bay Club. He is also the owner of 'Savage Xpress', a detail/wrap shop located in Milpitas, California. As a professional car detailer, he has come across many customers who want to take care of their vehicle’s paint but don’t know where to start or in what direction to go. In this article, he walks us through some paint protection options, its pros, and cons.

Tesla Model 3 popularity on Turo mirrors consumer demand

For a while, I considered purchasing a Tesla and paying it out renting it on Turo. I ended up not doing so since, ultimately, it required too much work and I just didn't have the time to fully evaluate if it would financially make sense for my particular situation. In case you've wondered about it too, here are some interesting numbers from this article about Turo:

  • It has gone from 67 Tesla to +10K in 6 years (2014 to 2020)
  • The majority of those listings are Model 3
  • Model X is tops in the earnings category, followed by the Chevrolet Corvette and by the Model 3

Four hour charging times, 'special' doors that won't open in tight spaces, and other myths about Tesla cars... explained by Tesla owners. 😎 🤓

What the acronym?

As Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.

  • SUV - Sport Utility Vehicle
  • RWD - Rear-Wheel Drive
  • LR - Long Range
  • AWD - All-Wheel Drive
  • PPF - Paint Protection Film
