I really like the article by Bryan Schreier (linked below) on how to prepare a board deck.  A terrific reminder on structuring your first few board meetings as a new CEO.

A board's mission is to give advice, help solve problems, and reinforce best practices for you as the CEO.  The goal of a board meeting should be to maximize the value you get as a founder while minimizing the amount of time you spend preparing.

Preparing for your board meeting is an opportunity to pull yourself out of the day to day and take a look at your company as if you were sitting on the moon viewing the earth.
