Laravel 8, the brand new release of the Laravel framework is all set to launch on 8th of September. Taylor Otwell gave an impressive insight of what to expect in this year’s Laracon Online.

As I'm sure you heard if you follow along with the Laravel community, the latest Laracon event was held on Wednesday, which was hosted online instead of the usual summer conference in the US. There were 15 fantastic speakers, but there was one that everybody was waiting for.

Laravel 8 is the upcoming new version which will probably be released on September 8th, 2020. Taylor Otwell showed us a lot of features from Laravel 8 on Laracon Online.

Laravel 8 ships with cool new features as well as some changes to the queue system. In this post we'll look into these features and changes. The retryAfter() method and the retryAfter property of queued jobs, mailers, notifications, and listeners has been renamed to backoff.

Factories change significantly in Laravel 8. Existing apps using Laravel 7 factories will likely need to install the laravel/legacy-factories package to support the previous generation of factories. Another option would be to upgrade all your factories to the Laravel 8 style.

In case you haven't seen, Taylor has made the repositories for Jetstream and Fortify public. Anyone else not sold on the default Alpine+Livewire or Inertia+Vue scaffolding options for Jetstream?

Another small helper feature coming to Laravel 8 is the ability to fluently time travel in your tests. This will allow you to easily test for things like what happens when a free trial ends, or a next billing date, etc.

What is Laravel Jetstream? It is a brand new Scaffolding package for your Laravel 8 projects. It goes beyond Authentication Scaffolding. And, its available as free, open source package by the Laravel team.
