Issue 130 - Built for the track πŸŽ

Biggest Announcements from Battery Day

Tesla did not disappoint. Plans are aggressive, but realistic IMO. A good and short summary from The Verge: "The company’s moves toward eliminating cobalt in its batteries, a new Plaid powertrain for the Model S that could get to speeds of 200 mph, and a new cathode plant to streamline its battery production. And, with the new battery technology, Musk has said Tesla will make a $25,000 car." Very proud to be a stockholder!

New Model S Plaid

They did it. Yesterday, Tesla announced the new Model S Plaid with a tri-motor powertrain and the specs are even better than what we were hoping for. It can already be pre-ordered online (since yesterday) and deliveries are planned for later in 2021.

  • >520 mi range
  • 200 mph top speed
  • <2.0 seconds 0-60 mph
If Plaid is going to be so awesome, why a Roadster, you'd ask yourself. Someone also asked Elon Musk on Twitter. His answer: it's going to be even better.

Fastest SUV in the world πŸ“Ή

'FromWhereICharge' took Unplugged Performance's Model Y for a spin and broke the old lap record at Buttonwillow Raceway by 2 secs with a 1:59.9. Well done!

Model 3 2-year review

This review is interesting because it's not only a 2-year review but a follow-up of a 1-year review by the same owner of the same Model 3 and you can see a side by side comparison of what has changed in this second year of ownership.

Model 3 paint correction with Feynlab Self Healing Ceramic Coating πŸ“Ή

Model 3 paint correction with a two-step process: Spraying with Feynlab Panel Prep and then applying one layer of Feynlab Self Heal Lite and one layer of Feynlab Ceramic Coating as a top coat to give it that extra glossy and slickness. The main advantage compared to PPF such as XPEL is that this one lasts longer. Note that this is a certified installer only product.

Under construction
Superchargers, Superchargers everywhere πŸ“·

Even though it's not on the supercharger.info site yet, it seems like Tesla is building its biggest Supercharger location yet with, wait for it, 56 stalls!! Check out the construction pics taken in Firebaugh, (North) California. At the same time, this week we received a tip from @nwbailey with a picture of a Tesla sign taken in ROW DTLA, (South) California, saying 200+ V3 stalls are coming in 2021 in LA METRO. So much needed!

Giga Texas colossal plans

We've known for a while that Tesla had big plans for the Giga Texas. But how big? Some say it's not all about the factory- afterall, Tesla is a hardware but also a software company, Elon has said it himself many times. Speculations say that Tesla could be building a separate research and development and design facilities at the site. Austin has a great tech scene and Tesla could potentially be creating a new video game design and production team there. What do you think?

Elon finally said 'yes' to waypoints

This should be under 'Software updates' but hey, the community has been asking about this for a while and we've finally managed to get Elon to say yes in public. Waypoints, or the ability to add multiple destination points to calculate routes and charging stops, may finally be arriving soon to our Teslas. Thank you @Model3Owners for asking one more time!

Mini Model Y limited edition πŸ“Ή

Mini Model Y version for kids, limited-edition Signature Red. How come I didn't know about this? My kids are going to *need* one.

What the acronym?

As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.

  • SUV -  Sport Utility Vehicle
  • PPF - Paint Protection Film
