Forbes - Politicizing a vaccine

Not only are we in the middle of a pandemic, but we are also in the middle of what the World Health Organization is calling an “infodemic” -- mass scale misinformation about the Covid-19 virus. A new study from researchers at Cornell University points the finger at a political figure for spreading Covid-19 fake news: President Trump. The researchers found that the President is the largest driver of Covid-19 misinformation, on topics including potential treatments as well as a vaccine timeline. Now, vaccine manufacturers are also pushing back on the President’s statements. While President Trump continues to say that the U.S. is weeks away from a vaccine, Moderna’s CEO confirmed that their Covid-19 vaccine frontrunner won’t be approved until spring 2021. Pfizer’s CEO also made his frustrations known in an internal memo, where he told staff that he was frustrated with the politicization of vaccines in the recent presidential debate.
