The 2021 State of Independent SaaS Survey 🚀

Hey there!

We are back with the second annual State of Independent SaaS Survey, the most comprehensive look at the state of bootstrapped and mostly bootstrapped SaaS founders out there.

Last year, we launched this first-of-its-kind survey of hundreds of non-venture track, revenue generating SaaS companies. A lot has changed in the last 12 months, so we're interested to see how the landscape has changed for founders across the globe. Once the data is in, we will analyze, number crunch, and turn into an epic report filled with benchmarks, growth rates, demographics, validation approaches, and more.

The report will be useful for:

Comparing your progress to other non-venture funded SaaS baselines for things like churn, MRR, growth rate, visitor to trial, trial to paid with and without credit card, LTV, NPS, and more.
Identifying trends such as which marketing approaches are working.
Identifying key milestones and KPIs and slicing them based on price point, company stage, team size, location.

Should I take the survey?
Yes! If your SaaS (or subscription software) company is currently operating and generating at last $1/month in revenue, you should participate.

The survey is anonymous and your data will only be published in aggregate.
As a bonus, we’re going to produce a section of the survey called Marketing Extras that upon release will only be available to founders who complete the survey (we may release it to the general public at a later date).
The more data we are able to aggregate, the better the report will be.

Is it anonymous?
Yes. Once the survey is complete we will anonymously analyze the responses and create the State of Independent SaaS report, publishing only aggregated data.

How long will it take?
The survey is mobile friendly, about 40 questions and should take you less than 10 minutes (for most it’s 7-8 minutes). Founders who complete the survey will receive the bonus Marketing Extras section of the report that will not be available to the public when the report is released.

Why are you doing this?
All told, we will spend a handful of person-months and north of $10,000 running the survey and producing the report. Why invest the time and effort?

We want to put relevant data in your hands, the founder who needs it to make better decisions as you grow your company. This has been a core part of MicroConf's mission since we started back in 2011.

To date, we’ve built a worldwide community of like-minded founders who are ambitious but not looking to "become a unicorn or bust," and who encourage and share knowledge with one another. The State of Independent SaaS is a natural extension of that. We will keep the survey open EOD until Tuesday, October 20th.
