Liz WillenDear reader,

Here’s a little quiz, based on a must-read Hechinger Report story this week: What is one of the ‘biggest, costliest and most time-consuming logjams in higher education?’ Honors are coming your way if you chose ‘transferring academic credits.’

At a time when the pandemic is upending education and prompting a flurry of students to transfer from one institution to another, our story describes how some colleges are eliminating barriers to transferring credits that have disproportionately hurt Black and Latino students. We also bring you other examples of how institutions and people are adapting to the pandemic, such as the professor who spent more than $25,000 on audio and video gear to create a state-of-the-art Zoom classroom for the pandemic era – in his children’s playroom. As always, we love to hear your stories too.
