UN Human Rights Council adopts historic resolution to protect women's human rights in humanitarian settings: It's the first time the human rights of women in humanitarian settings are considered as unique issues rather than a small portion of a greater problem. Seeking Peace is a podcast exploring the role of women around the world in bringing lasting peace to their communities. In a recent episode, they sat down with Nobel Prize winner Nadia Murad to discuss her current work with Amal Clooney to bring ISIS to justice in court. 

Simone Leigh is the first Black woman to represent the U.S. at the Venice Biennale. Her art addresses the experience of Black women very directly. "I feel like I’m a part of a larger group of artists and thinkers who have reached critical mass. And despite the really horrific climate that we’ve reached, it still doesn’t distract me from the fact of how amazing it is to be a Black artist right now.”

Sistah Circle Collective is a Black African feminist collective in Rwanda dedicated to community organizing and centring the lives and narratives of all Black women. The collective was founded by Amata Inès Giramata, a Rwandan poet and feminist whose life is as inspiring as her current work.  

The Instagram account of Sistah Circle Collective is an excellent resource. The Collective highlights fascinating historical pieces such as a video interview from 1987 with Ama Ata Aidoo, a Ghanaian author, writer and academic on the exploitation of Africa and its riches.

Beyond resurfacing important historical materials from different countries throughout the continent, they also create informational posts on current events. Recently, they spoke about the SARS protests in Nigeria and highlighted the key role of women and the LGBTQ+ community:

"We are in full solidarity with our comrades in Nigeria fighting against this police violence // brutality. Particularly, we highlight the women of/in the movement. Very often we see such works of liberation swallowing whole voices of all who are not cis-men. But we know very well that women are organizing, planning and amplifying these movements. And we do not want them to be erased and we will not allow for this to happen. We also particularly recognize Black Muslim Women in this movement because we often again see a double erasure as they are women and Muslim."
