This week’s recs:
I’ve been logging a bit more time in the car so I was looking for more documentary style audio programs and found some good ones for you. If you enjoyed West Cork, you will like these. Warning: These are not happy or uplifting. There is subject matter that could be painful to listen to:
Podcast:
Hunting Warhead. This is a dark one. It is about hunting down people who are involved in child porn on the dark web. The storytelling here is top notch and the way that the authorities and investigators catch these pieces of shit is fascinating.
Another podcast:
Someone Knows Something. I am about halfway through season 1 of this show. This season is about a 5 year old kid who disappeared on a family fishing trip. It’s produced by the CBC (Canadian Broadcast Company). Again, not an uplifting story. The event happened some 40 plus years ago and the creator of the pod returns to this town (where he grew up) to re-open the case. I enjoy how these Canucks say Calabogie.
Something lighter:
I published a new episode of Lemon Wedge. This is a little side project that I’ve been working on. This episode features Rachel Renock, the CEO of a company called Wethos. She is a badass. If you are interested in startups, fundraising, or women who wake up everyday and kick ass, this is a good one for you.
Audible Book:
Climbing with Mollie by William Finnegan. If you checked out Barbarian Days from a previous Carrot Cake, you’ll recognize the author. I wanted to take on another of his books before making the jump into some of his beefier work (revolution, politics, civil rights). This book is a very quick listen. It’s about taking up rock climbing in his 60s with his teenage daughter. To me, it is a book about parenting and a book about sports parenting which some people suck at and others seem to handle a bit better. I’d like to eventually be in the second camp.
Some questions for this week:
What are you doing to maintain friendships right now? Seems a bit harder during covid19. Have you done anything that’s helped?
I’d love to hear about a goal that you are working on. Personal, professional, anything. What are you working towards?
What do you wish that someone would ask you?
Love you all. Thanks for reading.
