Color-blocked Rugs, Puffy Chairs, and Pimento Cheese Sandwiches
From the Source goes live every other Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. ET from the AD PRO Instagram account to share the new products that are catching the attention of AD market editor Madeline O’Malley and AD PRO associate editor Mel Studach. Our next live session will be November 11. Watch last week’s episode featuring all 10 picks, view the resource guide, and find an edited recap of our conversation below. Madeline O'Malley: Technical difficulties (see: shattered iPhone) had us off IG Live for a few weeks, but that’s not to say we weren’t busy with virtual appointments. It’s been super interesting to see the new ways brands are presenting products in these virtual times, namely at the recent High Point Market for those of us who couldn’t make it IRL. Though I have to say, I sure did miss those pimento cheese sandwiches at Parson’s Table! Mel Studach: Yes, they were truly missed! Let’s see what has caught your eye these last few weeks. Want to kick us off with your favorite debuts?
Maddie: Happily. Especially beaucase my first pick this week comes from inside the AD family. Designer Colin King, who is one of our go-to stylists, has partnered with Beni Rugs for a collection of beautiful Moroccan rugs. Aptly titled The Shape of Color, the collection features 11 different styles in a mix of super saturated warm hues in geometric color blocks, which Colin says stem from the rich colors of Marrakech and Tangier and his desire to capture unusual details and unlikely juxtapositions. Mel: I’m such a fan of Colin’s work, and I can’t help but also plug his Stay Home Still Life series on Instagram, where he turns everyday household objects into incredible still-life videos. I’ve never been one to meditate, but those clips can really inspire zen if you’re in need—and it’s 2020, so I feel like we’re all in need!
Maddie: It’s certainly in high demand.
Mel: My first pick this week is quite a neat expansion! You may know Dinesen for its fine wood flooring, but the Scandinavian company has just added furniture and interior objects to its offerings. The inaugural line features eight pieces, all stripped of ornamentation and meant to celebrate the natural solid wood for which the maker is best known. I’m particularly enjoying the DS201 stool, which of course could play double duty as a bedside table or even a small display column for plants or objects. Maddie: My next pick is all for clean lines as well. With the Puffy Lounge Chair, a chic collaboration between Hem and Faye Toogood, the designer combines a sharp, steel chair frame with a super soft, quilted upholstery. It’s like a draped duvet, if you could imagine it! Faye says she wanted to emphasize the two contradictory ideas: stability and strength with comfort and reassurance. Mel: So good! My next pick comes from Kelly Wearstler’s latest collection.… Continue to the full episode here. Trouble viewing? View in browser Unsubscribe | Privacy Policy Copyright © 2020 Condé Nast |
