Autopilot and FSD

Autopilot speed limit testing 📹

Tesla Tom brings us this Autopilot version 2020.44 speed limit testing on single and multi-lane roads with both fixed and offset speed limits. It looks like on multi-lane roads AP still doesn't apply the changes automatically, but if you push them manually- the car recognizes the speed limit change and you can tap on it on the screen- AP will match it appropriately. On a single lane road AP does automatically match the road speed when it drops (not when it increases, in which case you have to push it). All in all, still room for improvement, but feeling good about this!

Batteries

New cells boost Tesla Model 3 battery capacity to 82 kWh

According to the discussion on reddit.com/r/TeslaMotors, the recently refreshed Tesla Model 3 is equipped with more energy-dense battery cells (by several percent) and a total capacity of 82 kWh. The new pack would be roughly 3 kWh or 3.8% more energy-dense and apply to the Long Range version only. One would assume the same improvements will come to the Model Y LR as well.

Battery degradation: Effects of temperature on battery (Model 3/Y) 📹

Interested in real-world data to determine the impact of the temperature in battery degradation? This is your video. As you will see, the improvements introduced in the Model Y 2020 are great and battery degradation in this car is even less than in previous Model 3 models. Shoutout to @teslagong and @kkvr2328 for this new YouTube series.

Model 3 & Model Y

More changes in the Model 3 interiors (and more pictures!) 📷

More and more details of the Model 3 2021 refresh are becoming available (more pictures as well 😉). A new one is that it seems Tesla is getting rid of the 'piano black' on the doors. I personally didn't like it that much, so for me, it's a good move 👌  What do you think?

Tesla obtains approval on Model Y Made in China
Tesla has received approval from the Chinese government to register its new Model Y made in China, which means they are ready to start production soon. Deliveries of the Model Y MIC are planned for early 2021.

Pictures of the Giga Berlin construction 📷

Brand new 'official' pictures published this month. If you thought the construction of the Giga Shanghai was fast, Giga Berlin is raising the bar even more!

Touchscreen

Tesla is offering a no-cost repair of the eMMC to Model S/X built before March 2018

A couple of days ago, I received an email from Tesla indicating that I am eligible for a no-cost repair of the eMMC in case it is malfunctioning (which is actually the case). This applies to Model S and Model X vehicles built before March 2018 and it either covers a repair or a reimbursement of a previous repair of this touchscreen component.

[Rumor] Next-gen AMD GPUs for Tesla's infotainment systems

According to Patrick Schur on Twitter- considered a reliable AMD leaker- Tesla is considering using next-gen AMD GPUs for its infotainment systems. They'd be considering a Navi 23 with the following specs:

  • Die size: 14.28 mm x 16.51 mm ≈ 235,76 mm²
  • Package: 35 mm × 35 mm

What the acronym

As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.

  • FSD - Full Self-Driving
  • AP - Autopilot
  • KWh - Kilowatt-hour
  • LR - Long Range
  • MCU1 - Has an NVIDIA Tegra-3 chip. All Model S and Model X built before the end of March 2018 have this version.
  • MCU2 - Has a more powerful Intel x86_64 processor. All Model 3 have this version as well as the Model S and Model X built after the end of March 2018.
  • MIC - Made in China
  • eMMC - embedded Multi-Media Controller
  • AMD - Advanced Micro Device
