Forbes - Virus Exposure On The Job

Morning Banter

Essential workers have kept the nation from grinding to a complete halt, putting themselves and their family members at risk.

Now, a new report from the Urban Institute has found that Black, Hispanic and Native American workers in the U.S. are more likely than white and Asian workers to have jobs that
must be done in-person, placing them at greater risk of exposure to the coronavirus.

More than half of all Black, Native American, and Hispanic/Latinx workers have essential or nonessential jobs requiring in-person work, compared to 41% and 42% of white and Asian workers respectively. These marginalized groups are also more likely to live in multigenerational households, meaning that their family members face greater risks of virus transmission at home.

Researchers recommended various public health changes that could help alleviate the risk, including offering universal paid sick leave policies for employees who contract coronavirus or are exposed to someone who is sick.
