Happy Thursday and welcome to issue #28!

Today's issue will mark the last one of the year before I take a much needed break to unwind and reset after writing this newsletter for a solid 6 months. It's also a good time for me to reflect on a few highlights from the past year, so this issue might be a little longer than usual.

Most people will tell you that 2020 has been a shit year but in all honestly, this year has afforded me more opportunities than the last 5 years combined. It gave me the opportunity to build something I can actually call mine, expanded my knowledge and reach in the maker community, made some of the most meaningful relationships in my life with people from all 4 corners of the globe and made a tiny internet business with a bunch of super fans that in turn landed me some high-profile clients in the tech space for my freelance copywriting.

Here are the highlights of this year for.

Started The Slice 6 months ago,
Left Asia and decided to move back to South Africa.
Quit smoking after 5 years (8 months free today)
Was asked to be a guest on the Newsletter Crew podcast and became a regular contributor to their blog.
Monetised the newsletter which was met by an amazing reception!
Realised that my happiness stems from the things I build and create.
Joined an amazing little maker mind group with a few creators that I've met along the way, that I can now call friends.

What's in store for 2021?
As you may know, I recently made a change to landing page and the logo. This is but a few changes that I'll be doing to the aesthetic of The Slice. I might change the day The Slice goes out, from a Thursday to a Wednesday in the new year.

I'm also looking to give the general template of the newsletter a new feel and look in the new year as well. Another big questions is whether I should continue to add the gifs in each issue? I'd love to know your opinions?

For the last couple of months I've been pondering on the Idea of creating an exclusive version of The Slice that will go out every Sunday. Still have to think of a good theme to base it around though.

A mindset of abundance as opposed to scarcity.
I think this entire journey thus far has taught me to have more of an abundance mindset as opposed to a scarcity one. When ever I speak to my friends, acquaintances or family about what I do for a living, I usually get an expression of disbelief in their eyes, and where the entire concept of remote work was alien to them until recently.

I went from telling myself, "I'm in such a tiny place, I won't be able to progress, and grow as a freelancer" , to saying, "well the world is pretty f*cking massive....and I have the internet, so I basically have no excuse."

I think this shift in thinking really was the biggest change that happed to me this year and ultimately grow to be better a "hooman".

The Slice will back with a new issue on the 7th of January, but until then I wish you all a happy holiday, keeping those positive vibes strong and those COVID tests negative.
