By Delece Smith-Barrow

It has been a tumultuous year for all of us, especially those involved with education. I’ve done my best to uncover and share with you the important trends and developments in higher education, and I’ve gathered here 10 of my favorite newsletters from 2020.

The end of the year brought a personal change, too. I’ve taken a new job as the education editor at Politico, a news outlet focused on policy and politics in Washington, D.C., and abroad. The Hechinger Report will have a new reporter covering higher education soon, and in the meantime the newsletter will continue every other week, with stories from other reporters and editors at Hechinger.  The next newsletter will come to your inbox on Jan. 14, 2021.

Finally, I’d like to take a moment to say how vitally important your readership and support is for The Hechinger Report.  The journalists there remain committed to covering the most important issues in education, including the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and the changes that may come with a new Congress and a new administration in Washington.

This is where you come in.

As a nonprofit news outlet, The Hechinger Report relies on the generosity of individual donors and large philanthropic institutions to keep the organization running. Financial fallout from the pandemic has added financial pressures on everyone, including The Hechinger Report’s foundation funders. I’m hoping you will reflect on the coverage Hechinger provides, and will want it to continue to be as thorough and far-reaching as possible. Even though 2020 is coming to a close today, you can still endorse Hechinger’s work by making a gift now.

Thank you for your readership and happy New Year!
