Silicon Valley Funding News - Week of January 11, 2021. Lacework Raised $525M Series D

2021 is off to a chaotic start!

The U.S. Capitol attack, NYSE's flip-flopping over the delisting of Chinese tech stocks, President Trump banning all the Chinese apps while all the American apps are banning him.

Where China-US relations will go is unclear, from Wall Street's point of view, delisting Chinese companies could drive many Chinese firms to other exchanges, shutting out U.S. investors from fast-growing businesses. My study was quoted on Protocol this past week - of the private companies globally that raised the most funding in 2020, the top 10 raised $13.6 billion combined, and six of those 10 were based in China.  Check out my conversation with Tomio Geron on Protocol - if U.S. IPO markets continue to jerk Chinese companies around, it will send a really unwelcome signal to many high-growth Asian companies that maybe they should consider listing in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and London instead.

2020 the pandemic year was a huge accelerant for the technology sector and investments. Zoom's stock increased 500% over the year with numerous blockbuster IPO's including Snowflake, Airbnb, Doordash, Palantir, Unity, C3.ai, McAfee, JFrog, Agroa.io, Rackspace, and Sumo Logic. Tech is growing strong and shows no signs of slowing down.

On January 26, my partner Alfred Chuang and I will do a live Zoom discussion to reflect on how his experience and investment style has served him during the last and current crisis and what he sees in store for venture technology investors in 2021.
