Sometimes we overthink how to rank #1 in Google.

When it comes down to it, Google ranks articles at the top of Google that are the most optimized on-page and that have the highest quality and quantity of links.

Today, I want to share how you can be CERTAIN that you've optimized your articles on-page to the best of your ability.

How can you know what related keywords to use? How can you know what headings to use?

How can you know how long your article should be? How many images it should have? And much more?

Well, Google is telling you ALL of those things already.

Just look at #1 ranking in Google for your chosen keyword and you can see EXACTLY what Google wants to rank first.

I usually like to take a look at the top 3 results and look at average article length, subheadings used, topics covered, and more to give me an idea of what my final article should look like.

For example, on Own The Yard, I have an article targeting "best croquet set". I currently rank #4 in Google for that term.

If I were to update this article and better optimize it, I could significantly increase the traffic if I moved from #4 to #1 in Google.

How would I do that?

Well, one helpful content optimization tool that I used last week is Surfer SEO.

In addition, Surfer tells me how long my article should be, what keywords I should mention in my headings, how many images I should use and much more.
