Welcome back to this week’s edition of Startup Digest’s Reading List, a curated list of the top stories in technology, startups, and venture capital.
A few weeks ago my partners Edith Yeung and Alfred Chuang hosted a discussion around the 2021 technology investment trends, specifically for investors and capital allocators. Here is the recorded conversation if you want to check it out.

Big Tech News Last Week
  • Jeff Bezos officially stepped down as CEO of Amazon into a chairman role. Here is the email he wrote to all of the Amazon employees.
  • Apple is reported to be working on a new VR headset. Will be very curious on the final specs as it gets closer to release.
  • SpaceX test flight of the SN9 explodes on landing.
  • Carta launched CartaX, a listing service for private companies - and listed itself on there.
Deep Dive Posts
  • My former colleague at Greylock, Kevin Kwok, wrote about how products can be reduced to “atomic concepts”, using examples from Figma and Canva.
  • The rise and fall of InVision, continues the analysis on the design tool space. The main takeaway for me is > “Any prototyping tool that exists separately from design functionality was always going to be clunky and limited.”
  • With the rise of Clubhouse there has been an increased attention to Agora - the API which powers Clubhouse and many other audio and video applications. Here is a quick overview of the company. A huge congrats to my partner at Race Capital, Edith Yeung, who was one of their first investors.
  • Here is an interactive essay of networks and how they spread, applicable to businesses, technology, viruses, and many other phenomenons in the world.
