Issue 151 - Model S refresh spotted in the wild

Incentives

Tesla to gain access to 400k more $7k EV tax credits
The US administration is looking into extending the EV rebates to 400,000 more cars per manufacturer. Even if the bill passes, it will be several months until it goes into effect. Good news nonetheless.

Tesla to start a test project in Norway to incentivize owners to avoid traveling on peak days
Tesla is planning on reducing Supercharging prices by 50%  to see if they're able to influence the days people travel and prevent them to do it on peak days. Nice idea, I assume the Tesla population is big enough for Tesla to try this, which is also a great thing!

Tesla owners stories

TOSV founder talks about the latest FSD update 📹
Our good friend John from Tesla Owners Silicon Valley was featured in an article talking about the club and the latest FSD Beta update. John has been one of the few people who have publicly been testing the FSD Beta and has put a bunch of videos out there to show the rest of us what the beta is capable of.

Their Tesla kept this family from freezing last night
A lot is said about EVs and catastrophes, in particular, uninformed people like to make fun of what would happen to an EV when the power goes out. Well, this family in Texas (infant included) was able to warm themselves up in their Tesla when their power- and main way of heating their home- went out for six hours. The temperature outside was in the single (Fahrenheit) digits 🥶

Software & Hardware Updates

Model S refresh spotted in Toledo, OH 📷
First time that someone captures the interior of a refreshed Model S. In this prototype the steering wheel is the conventional round one and there seem to be some stickers indicating the gears below the phone charging area.

Backup camera fix in 2020.48.35.5 ðŸ“·
I've heard many folks who upgraded their MCU1 to MCU2 complaining about the backup camera being too dark at night. Well, we have good news, the software update 2020.48.35.5 comes with a fix for you. Check out the before and after images in the link.

Model Y new center console 📷

It seems that some new Model Ys are now delivered in the US with the new center console that was first seen in China. Neat!

Explaining changes post-firmware 2019.16 regarding range loss

@wk057 - famous Tesla tinkerer - has published a great writeup explaining the range loss for some Model S owners after the software update 2019.16. The article is really informative, I highly recommend it to be read in full.

New Models

Tesla e-bike coming soon? 📷
We all know that Tesla likes leaving clues to future products in their marketing images, the latest example is the bottle of Tesla Tequila on the table of the poster featuring the solar roof. This time, Tesla wasn't that subtle and put half a bike in plain sight of one of their posters, is Tesla going to be producing an e-bike soon? One can just dream...

Tesla solar van could have solar panels
The fact that Tesla is not close to launching a van yet doesn't mean that Elon Musk won't publicly share his thoughts about it. Just recently, in an interview with Joe Rogan on the comedian’s podcast, Elon indicated that a van’s design would be more favorable to equip solar panels for stationary charging. How could that be?

What the acronym

As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.

  • EV - Electric Vehicle
  • TOSV - Tesla Owners Silicon Valley
  • FSD - Full Self-Driving
  • MCU - Media Control Unit
