I’ve tried to teach my kids that there’s no free lunch. A cell phone carrier might give you a free phone, but you have to pay data and roaming charges. A store might give you a small gift on your birthday, but then it has your email address to spam with unwanted offers (and you shouldn’t tell a retailer your birthday in the first place). When the time comes, I’ll tell my boys that investments with big potential gains carry the risk of big losses. That’s not to say to avoid them altogether. Just know that you don’t get something for nothing: If someone promises you a risk-free 10%, run the other way. In today’s edition, learn more about the risks and rewards in the fixed-income markets right now.

Best wishes,
Elizabeth

RETIRE WITH MONEY COMMUNITY NEWS
This week in our Retire with Money Facebook group, a member posted this prediction that the U.S. economy will rebound after herd immunity is reached no later than July. Morningstar analysts predicted a return to late 2019 employment levels by the end of this year. That would be a great outcome, if it comes to pass. One member wondered about the outlook for inflation, which wasn’t mentioned in the piece. Inflation concerns rattled the stock market last week, but some say such fears may be overblown.
