Run and Rabbit - 🐇 Ep2: Train Slow, Race Fast
One of the most common misconceptions of becoming a good runner is that the only way to get better is to spend every single minute of training at your limits - huffing and puffing, legs burning. Nothing could be further from the truth. The 80/20 principle applies: 80% of your training should be at or below your aerobic limit. For me, that’s less than 145bpm (I’m 25). I describe it as my ‘run all day’ pace.* The other 20% of total time is used for extremely focused, high-quality workouts, disbursed throughout a typical training week so that there is enough slow running recovery time in between. The same principle applies in my personal life. You can’t sprint all day, every day. There are periods where you need to settle into a sustainable ‘run all day’ pace and tick things along. This is your equilibrium. When a big opportunity or project lands on your desk - it’s time to ramp things up. That’s only possible if you are energized, and sufficiently rested to do so. Understand the micro and macro flows of your life. Have the patience to realize that there will be a time to sprint, a time to recover, and a time to tick-along. Train slow so you can race fast. 🎧 Listen:Something chilled for your Friday: 🏔 A Run:

🐇 5: Metrics matter
Saturday, March 27, 2021
If we measure an ultra-marathoner by their 100m sprint time, they're unlikely to be deemed a good runner. Similarly, your perspective of success is only as accurate as the metrics you measure.

Training your body is an experiment. You're constantly changing inputs (volume, intensity) to see how your body responds (fitness, aerobic capacity). In response to those inputs, your body gives
