It is true that, thanks to inflation, a dollar today will not buy the same goods it will 10 years from now.

While this is a cause for moderate concern for the average working individual, it's acutely worrisome for retirees.

So it's no surprise that when the Fed downplayed the 2.6% jump in the Consumer Price Index recently, most investors and retirees were skeptical.

With house prices going up by 12% and lumber prices tripling, our dollar isn't going as far as it used to in the acquisition of hard assets, real estate and business assets.
