5-Bullet Friday

Hi All!

Here is your weekly dose of “5-Bullet Friday,” a list of what I’m pondering and exploring.

What I’m reading (funny but not practical) —
Dear Bill and/or Melinda(The New Yorker). This caught me off guard and made me laugh out loud. The funniest part—and least funny part—is how many emails I actually receive that are some version of this.

What I’m reading (not funny but very practical) —
Introduction to Effective Altruism (EA). I wanted to reread the basics of EA, as it’s been a few years since my podcast with Will MacAskill, one of the originators of the movement. This review came about because I was invited to join a psychedelics-focused Ask Me Anything (AMA) on the Effective Altruism Forum, alongside Michael Pollan (@michaelpollan), bestselling author of How to Change Your Mind, and Dr. Matthew W. Johnson (@Drug_Researcher), professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins. Huge thanks to the community for all of the wonderful questions. I learned a lot and had a blast.

What I’m cooking with —
Rao’s Sensitive Marinara. My girlfriend is currently following a low-FODMAP diet, which led us to this product as our default tomato sauce. Last night, I incorporated it into a ground Maui Nui venison stew (also excellent on top of spaghetti squash “pasta”), including a few dashes of ginger, cumin, paprika, and cinnamon. It turned out spectacularly. From the Rao description: “This sauce does not contain onions or garlic, while still keeping all the flavor of our slow-simmered Italian tomatoes.”

What I’m occasionally stealing from my girlfriend —
Four Sigmatic’s Body Butter. She *loves* this stuff and puts it on her face before bed.
