[Updated] 2021 FBA calculator for new fees

 Spiral

Increases, as promised

In case you forgot, Amazon posted a reminder that the new referral and FBA fees have been implemented, starting June 1. Here's a summary and analysis of the changes.

We’ve also updated our FBA calculator to incorporate the increased fees. Learn how much you owe Amazon so you can adjust your prices accordingly.

Amazon: 85 countries bigger

Jeff is an ambitious man. He wants Amazon to be Earth’s Most Customer-Centric Company, Earth’s Best Employer, and Earth’s Safest Place to Work. In order to do this, he must of course expand his reach across the globe.

There are currently 195 countries in the world. Amazon has established its presence in 188 of them, after adding 85 more to its list of countries accepted for seller registration.

Some of the most prominent additions include Venezuela, Pakistan, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia. Before their addition to the list, there were already Amazon sellers from these countries. But they had to establish their business in another place.

Expect to see more sellers and more products on the platform. Your competitors are increasing by the hour. Make sure you’re ready.

A solid liquidation program

Many sellers stay in denial for too long and choose to rack up FBA fees instead of giving up their inventory. This is reminiscent of the romantic stubbornness exhibited by 20-somethings.

But to those who are ready to listen to Elsa and let it go, check out FBA Liquidations. It’s a program that allows sellers to get rid of their inventory through wholesale liquidators.

To determine how much to reimburse you, Amazon uses the average selling price (ASP), which is affected by the following factors:

  • Sales history
  • Average FBA selling price on Amazon
  • Sales history of the specific ASIN

The gross recovery value is relatively low (about 5 to 10 percent of the ASP). But between that and paying extra to get rid of your inventory yourself, the former is preferable.

Prime Day confirmed

We relied on Bloomberg’s leaked info before the confirmation. But Amazon finally announced that Prime Day will be on June 21 and 22.

Prime Day typically comes around mid-July. But because of the conditions brought about by the pandemic, it was moved to October last year.

This time, Amazon set the dates early. As to why, CFO Brian Olsavsky had this to say: “We are going to do it on a date where we think it'll get more attention for our customers, and also for our vendors.”

This, of course, had something to do with the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics, which will now be in July. Travel and transportation concerns were considered in making this decision.

Other important things in the announcement:

  • Prime Day plans are postponed in Canada and India because of COVID-19 concerns.
  • Amazon includes more than 300,000 small businesses and offers a “Spend $10, Get $10” deal for Prime members who buy from select stores.
  • There is a curated storefront where buyers can browse through woman-owned, family-owned, and Black-owned businesses.

So one of the biggest days on Amazon is coming soon. Are you ready?

For the ordinary days

Prime Day comes only once a year. Sure, it’s a great chance to increase your sales. But what you do the rest of the year matters more for your overall revenue.

Product launches, promotions, and listing optimization are areas Amazon sellers need to master to be successful in the platform. You can learn these by experimenting with your brand to see what works, or you can learn from two 7-figure sellers.

We’ve created and sold multiple successful brands over the years, and we’ve summarized our best practices in a handy book. It’s free if you want it.
