Venture capitalist Katherine Boyle of General Catalyst is hoping to tap into the talent in the tech ecosystem by investing in startups focused on some of the most pressing problems of our time. Her focus on civic tech is predicated on the idea that government isn't the one to solve these issues, and that we need the private sector to do so.

“A big part of our thesis is that innovative companies can fill in where existing government agencies have fallen short,” Boyle tells Fast Company. Read more here.

NEWS
I think we’re alone now: What you need to know
Weeks ahead of an eagerly anticipated government report covering the dozens of unidentified flying objects seen by Navy pilots for over a decade, senior administration officials briefed on the findings told The New York Times that there’s no evidence the sightings are of alien technology. But there’s no evidence they are not, either.
The report, due to be released June 25, apparently does not offer much hard data on what the unidentified areal phenomena could be.
It does, however, conclude that the sightings are not of American-made aircrafts, which raises the possibility that they could have originated from a foreign adversary, notably China or Russia.
Given the lack of specifics, the forthcoming report is likely to spur more questions (and conspiracy theories) than answers.
