Spotify Newsletter - Spotify Newsletter #62
Hello and thanks for checking out the latest issue of Spotify Newsletter. The streaming giant dropped its new live audio app (Greenroom) this week, so that probably tops the big news list. There’s also a Netflix show being developed around the Spotify origin story. The fictional series is inspired by the book “Spotify Untold” by Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud — both business reporters at Swedish Dagens Industri. The book told the story of Spotify’s thorny journey — from the challenge of persuading hardline record labels to sign up, to Steve Jobs’ personal war on Spotify’s U.S. launch, and widely publicized conflicts with the likes of Taylor Swift and Bob Dylan (link). My initial reaction is mostly ‘whatever.’ Just not interested. Give me more ‘Queen’s Gambit,’ as I’m in severe withdrawals from not having any further episodes to watch. This mini-series might end up being good, but I’m not sure there is a major desire for such a deep dive via a TV series. ★In the SPOTlight★⭐️ Spotify Launches Greenroom, Its Live-Audio App to Take on Clubhouse, With Plans to Pay Creators

⭐️ Spotify Launches New 'Billions Club' Playlist Featuring Billie Eilish, Drake & MoreAccording to Spotify, the new playlist -- which currently features more than 150 songs -- highlights the megahits that have surpassed the one billion streams mark. Included on the new playlist are Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy," Drake's "God's Plan," J Balvin's "Mi Gente," and many, many others. 🗣Podcast Action🗣Spotify Clinches $60M-Plus Deal With Alex Cooper for ‘Call Her Daddy’ Podcast Spotify’s ‘Mogul’ Podcast Shares Trailer, Key Art for New Season About DJ Screw 🎧The Playlist List🎧How a Spotify Playlist Became Gen Z’s TRL 6 Designer-Approved Spotify Playlists 🔥Even More Hot News Links🔥Your Exclusive First Look At Griff’s New Mini-Doc For Spotify ‘Untold’, the new Netflix series about the birth of Spotify Clio Music Grand Winners: Spotify's 'The Decade Wrapped' Dave Portnoy Happy About Spotify Deal For Call Her Daddy How to Use Blend to Create a Spotify Playlist With a Friend 🎵New Adventures in Spotify🎵Always a fan of UB40, but had forgotten just how many great songs are scattered across their catalog. A good way to get me wound up is to get me talking about what a travesty it is that the J. Geils Band are not in the RnR Hall of Fame. It’s embarrassing. There’s a long list of artists who should be in, and this group is at the top. I’m so annoyed right now thinking about what nonsense the RNR Hall of Fame is and how they look like fools for overlooking so many classic artists I’m adding a second tune from J. Geils!!
