We’ve now been covering the Covid-19 pandemic for more than a year and a half. From the beginning, our goal was to bring clarity to chaos. To empower people with the information they needed to stay safe. And we’re not stopping.

Here is just a sample of our recent work I’m proud of that has helped our readers understand the vaccines, the variants, and how to prevent the next pandemic. (Yes — we could prevent diseases from becoming pandemics, if we take the right steps.)

Parents need clear information about sending their kids back to school. Anna North turned to experts for answers to questions like “What should schools be doing to keep their kids safe?”, while The Weeds examined policy decisions that led to school shutdowns, the consequences for different demographics, and alternative solutions for future crises.
As part of our series on the collateral toll of the pandemic, Katherine Harmon Courage exposed the crisis caused for America's unpaid caregivers, and Julia Belluz highlighted that despite a dire need for mental health support, doctors are often punished when they ask for help. She spoke to more than two dozen doctors, and their family members and colleagues, who had either died or attempted suicide.
