The Cut - 'My Husband Won’t Pay for Child Care!'

My husband is self-employed and earns a relatively good income but hoards all his money in his business account and leaves me to pay for child care and all other child-related expenses. He claims all our money is “ours,” yet I feel like I am always paying more than my share of our family’s operating expenses. We both have separate accounts and joint accounts and periodically have financial meetings in which he agrees to contribute more. But then nothing happens.

He does pay for our cable, some utilities, and any trips we take but seems to think his duties are done after that. How can we divide our shared expenses equally and stop arguing so much?

We’re still thinking about the harrowing testimonies from Simone Biles, McKayla Maroney, and their teammates at yesterday’s Senate hearing on the FBI’s cover-up of the allegations against Larry Nassar. Pope Francis is a master of shade. There is apparently some debate over the quality of food at the Met Gala. Travis Barker’s influence on the Kardashian family seems to be growing. We are thrilled to learn about yet another octopus skill: throwing shells and rocks at males who harass them. And leave it to Lil Nas X to make the best billboards we’ve ever seen.
