This week, Twitter is rolling out its Professionals program, which will make it easier for businesspeople and creators to use the platform to promote their products and services. It’s not what we asked for—we’re still waiting for Tweet edits—but it signals that Twitter is joining Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok in giving audiences a way to use their platforms in a more professional manner.

We took to the Twitter-feed streets to find out how people are really feeling about the new addition.

Alberta municipal politics reporter Jeremy Appel said it’d make Twitter a place to “live, work, and play,” which is already pretty accurate according to our weekly screen time reports.
“I want to use Twitter to make prof and personal connections...and I want to share my silly content with both,” echoed marketer Will McPherson.
Other Twitter users, like education editor Ruth Serven Smith, weren’t so pleased. “Twitter is already LinkedIn for journalists, just with extra harassment and misinformation,” she said.

All this talk about making your social media accounts more professional leaves us wondering where traditional résumés stand. When our presence on social media attracts enough attention to actually score us jobs (hi, Rachel!), will our résumés become secondary to our online personas?

While Twitter users debate whether they’ll use Twitter for Professionals, we’re getting started on our Twitter finstas.
