Night Water - The Night Water 50th Subscriber Special
Thank you for subscribing to Night Water: late night posts that hit different. They say it’s important to celebrate your milestones. Birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, retirement, and subscribers to your email newsletter. You know, the big five. On September 15, 7 months and 3 days after the first post, Night Water reached 50 email subscribers. So far, the Night Water community is a hodgepodge of friends, family, old coworkers, high school classmates, my mom’s friends, and strangers. Though you may not all know each other, you are connected by a common thread: a desire for refreshing, late night posts. The 50th person to join us at the fridge was Sami Boghos, who was kind enough to share a few details about his life and how it’s been changed by Night Water. Who are you and what is your deal? My name is Sami Boghos. I’m Atlanta-raised and currently live in New York City. I eat Chipotle for roughly 80% of my meals and work at a startup called Retirable (if any of the 49 subscribers who preceded me are approaching retirement and looking for confident income in retirement, reach out). How did you hear about Night Water? A Night Water post about Lucozade was shared in Slack channel at Retirable. I couldn’t imagine a world where I didn’t know the definitive ranking of 4 flavors of a drink I’d never previously heard of, so I immediately subscribed and have been an avid reader ever since. Where were you when you found you were Night Water’s 50th subscriber? I was at The Standard Biergarten with some colleagues and the author of Night Water when I was reminded to confirm my subscription. (If you’re reading this, you must already know, but I learned that it wasn’t enough to just put my email address in. I also had to confirm my subscription before receiving the refreshing, late night content I was looking for.¹) In the moment, I couldn’t believe that I was lucky enough to hold this milestone. Now that you’re subscribed to Night Water, what’s next for you? My late nights have been completely transformed. I’m not sure I can say exactly what’s next, but like getting married or having a kid, I’m confident I’ll look back at life as “pre-Night Water” and “post-Night Water.” For example, as a former soccer player who is getting back into running, I’m learning that physical activity gets harder with age. I’ve been on a quest to find the perfect running shoes to support my collapsing body. I’m hopeful that I’ll find success in this area in my “post-Night Water” era. What does the phrase “late night vibes” mean to you? Let me set the scene: It’s not “late” per se. I’ve just looped back to Season 1 of The Office and I’m a few episodes in when I get a pop-up message asking if I’m still watching. Yes. Yes I am. Thank you Sami for subscribing to Night Water and for answering our burning questions. Our next milestone, 100 subscribers, and subsequent subscriber Q&A can’t come soon enough. Do your part by aggressively promoting Night Water to your friends, family, colleagues, dentist, baristas, celebrities you see on the street, Siri, and anyone else you share polite pleasantries with. 1 This actually should not be true. I turned off this setting and you shouldn’t have to confirm your subscription. Sound off in the comments and let me know if you had to confirm your subscription to Night Water! If you liked this post from Night Water, share it with a friend. If you hated this post, share it with an enemy. If you want to infuse your workplace with some chaotic energy, post it in a random Slack channel with the message “thoughts?” |
